About Lianne Kula
Hi, I am Lianne Kula, a Registered Psychotherapist and the founder of Little Waves Therapy. I provide individualized therapy for children and teens, offering a calm and supportive space where young people can feel understood while building skills to manage emotions, strengthen confidence, and navigate life’s challenges.
My work is grounded in evidence-based care and guided by the belief that meaningful change happens through small, steady steps over time.
My Background and Experience
My journey into psychotherapy began with a strong interest in mental health and a love for working with young people. After earning my Bachelor of Arts in the Faculty of Science at Wilfrid Laurier University, I facilitated individual and group music programs for teens and young adults with cognitive, developmental, and mental health challenges. Through this work, I saw firsthand how powerful creative expression can be in supporting emotional growth.
I have also worked one-on-one with children experiencing ADHD, anxiety, and emotional and behavioural regulation challenges, as well as in leadership roles within youth-focused environments. These experiences shaped my approach and reinforced my commitment to supporting children and teens in thoughtful and developmentally appropriate ways.
Education and Clinical Training
I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and have completed additional training in evidence-based approaches commonly used in child and adolescent therapy. My training includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills for adolescents and families, mindfulness-based approaches, play-based interventions, and sand tray work.
This training allows me to tailor therapy to each child or teen, drawing from approaches that best fit their needs, strengths, and goals.
My Therapeutic Approach
I practice from an eclectic, person-centered approach that emphasizes empathy, collaboration, and the therapeutic relationship. Therapy is paced to meet each child or teen where they are, recognizing that reaching out for support takes courage.
My focus is on helping young people develop practical coping strategies that feel relevant to their lives, while also creating space for emotional growth, self-understanding, and self-acceptance. Parent collaboration is included when helpful to support progress outside of sessions.
The Little Waves Therapy Philosophy
At Little Waves Therapy, I draw inspiration from the ocean. Just as little waves gradually shape the shoreline, steady and consistent therapeutic support can lead to meaningful, lasting change. My work is guided by patience, care, and a belief in progress that unfolds over time.
