You Are an Important Part of Your Child's Therapeutic Journey
Parents and caregivers are an important part of a child's therapeutic journey. Parent support sessions provide dedicated time to connect, share observations, and collaborate on ways to best support your child outside of therapy.
These sessions are available for parents of children ages 12 and under who are currently receiving therapy at Little Waves. They provide space to better understand your child's emotions and behaviours, discuss challenges that may be coming up at home or school, and explore practical strategies to support their growth.
Depending on your child's needs, sessions may focus on understanding behaviour, responding to big emotions, supporting anxiety, and strengthening the connection between parents and children.
- Sharing observations from home and school
- Understanding what may drive behaviours or emotions
- Learning how to respond to big feelings
- Reinforcing skills your child is working on in therapy
- Discussing challenges and collaborating on strategies
- Strengthening the parent-child relationship
Parent support is collaborative while also respecting the child's privacy and autonomy. The focus is on sharing helpful strategies and information that support your child's well-being.

FAQQuestions About Parent Support
Are parent support sessions just for parents in crisis?
Not at all. Parent support sessions can be used proactively to help parents feel more confident in responding to their child and to explore strategies for specific challenges they may be experiencing.
Do I need to have a child in therapy to book parent support sessions?
Yes. Parent support sessions are offered to parents of current clients who are 12 and under. These sessions are intended to complement the child's ongoing therapy and support parents in helping their child outside of sessions.
What will we talk about in parent support sessions?
The focus of parent support sessions depends on the child's individual needs and what is appropriate to discuss with respect to the child's confidentiality and consent. Sessions may focus on ways parents can support their child, strategies for challenges at home, or other concerns that arise during the course of therapy.
Can both parents attend together?
Yes. Co-parent sessions are welcome and often very useful. Having both caregivers on the same page can make a big difference in how consistent support feels at home.
How many sessions will I need?
Some parents find just 2–3 sessions gives them enough tools and clarity. Others check in regularly over time. There's no fixed commitment. You can go at whatever pace feels right.
