Emotion-Focused Family Therapy
Healing happens through connection. EFFT helps families strengthen emotional bonds, understand each other more deeply, and support their children's emotional needs.
When Families Understand Each Other Better
Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) is an evidence-based approach that focuses on the emotional bonds within families and how strengthening those bonds can reduce conflict, improve communication, and support children's emotional development.
EFFT recognizes that parents and caregivers are one of the most powerful forces in a child's emotional life. When parents learn to understand what is driving their child's behaviours and emotions and respond in ways that feel safe and connecting: the entire family system begins to shift.
At Little Waves, EFFT principles are used in family therapy sessions and parent support sessions alike. The focus is on emotional responsiveness: helping parents understand their child's emotional world, and helping children feel safe enough to express what they are experiencing.
Children regulate their emotions through their caregivers first. When parents learn to understand and respond to their child's emotional experience, the impact on the child is profound.
